Blue Covenant

scarcityartDuring a glorious week of camping around the Grand Canyon, I finally made some time to delve into more project related literature. The first book I read was remarkably inspirational and informative: Maude Barlow’s new book Blue Covenant: The Global Water Crisis and the Coming Battle for the Right to Water. Barlow is the national chairperson of the Council of Canadians, Canada’s largest public advocacy organization, and one of the founders of the Blue Planet Project. Borrowing her own catch phrase, she is one of the preeminent water warriors.

Fiscally Sponsored!

Taking Shape

0Project details began to fall into places this week and I feel incredibly grateful.  The Bay Area is a vibrant active community, well networked, with many resources to offer.  Reaching out to organizations and like-minded people  is relatively easy compared to other places – I’m constantly amazed by how giving people are of their time and energy.

Uncertainty

FilmUncertainty dominated my planning and preparations this past week, and flexibility emerged as the only answer.  I let go of my sense of order while confronting changes in trip plans, research methods, and expectations of myself before the departure.  Swine flu and the looming threat of an uncontrollable pandemic frightened and surprised me.  My commitment didn’t falter, but the barriers to my trip to Mexico became intimidating.  The situation is certainly looking more hopeful and less dire, however it is still early to tell the lasting effects of swine flu.
