Same Places, New Perspectives

Tomando Video

Saturday we went on a moving and rich tour of the Ahogado watershed and a portion of the Santiago watershed with two classes of students from Iteso, a Jesuit college located on the outskirts of Guadalajara.  While we are still wrapping up our workshops in Juanacatán and El Salto, we began workshops with approximately 50 students at Iteso in collaboration with the professor and our friend, Étienne.  There are some great photos of the journey, click here to peruse them all.

Catching the Rain

catchingrainThe final rains of the rainy season fell today in Guadalajara, according to our friends here. We captured the sounds and sights from our apartment. The picture is of Arthur leaning out the window to record the rain, thunder, bird calls, noisy buses and church bells intermingling. In documentaries, it’s always good to have background noise and transition shots, so we began collecting that footage today. Flip Spotlight Partner

flipWe are very pleased to report that Adapting to Scarcity is now a Flip Spotlight Partner!  Flip provides one free Ultra 60 minute camcorder for every camera purchased by our organization.  Along with that excellent deal, the Spotlight program has a channel on Youtube which will increase our visibility on the internet.  The next step is to apply for non profit partnership on Youtube, because that will provide many more online tools and resources for posting video online.  With rapidly evolving technology, the face of media is following suit.  We look forward to working with IMDEC and the communities in Guadalajara to make our contribution to the new wave of grassroots reporting.

Logistics

111626014_8a33d1da4f_bThis week has been a week filled with logistics: plane tickets, travel insurance, belongings, apartments, the list goes on.  We’re getting ready to leave the Bay Area mid August and then we’ll head to Guadalajara in late September.  There is much to figure out over the next few months.  Once we arrive in Guadalajara my partner, Arthur, and I will enroll in a two week language intensive home stay in Guadalajara and then look for an apartment for the next six months.
