Building a grassroots movement is all about you

We will only be as strong and effective as the people who take an interest in our project.  Every action helps – from sending our website or Face Book page around, to throwing a killer fundraiser for us.  Each piece of the puzzle spreads the word farther and gains more support for our work.  Below are the areas we need help and collaboration, and they range from minute to large commitments.  Please take the time to check them out and be in touch.

Fundraising

We need all the help we can get raising money for our projects. No fundraising method is too small or too large! Help throw an event, find donors, write grants, etc. We are looking for people to help us out once, a few times, or for an ongoing period of time.

*Grant writing: advice, identifying applicable grants, and/or facilitation of grant writing process. Ideally you have experience successfully writing grants. And if you are interested in helping us out longer term, you could always help write a grant to fund your efforts

*Throw a fundraising event: On our fundraiser page there is a detailed description of how to easily throw a fundraising event. Parties, dinners, auctions, etc. are all fun and easy ways to help raise money.

*Solicit your friends, neighbors and family: Since we are fiscally sponsored by Media Alliance, we are considered a 501©3 organization. This means that donations to Adapting to Scarcity are TAX DEDUCTIBLE!

Technical stuff

We need a wide array of technical help – from web design/development to help with digital video production.

*Web Design: We need help coming up with design ideas and mockups for coh2o.org – our media library and global organizing platform for water scarcity. There will likely be other opportunities to help us improve design and usability of our websites.

*Web development: we need help developing/maintaining adaptingtoscarcity.org and we also need help developing the platform that will power coh2o.org – our media library and global organizing platform for water scarcity. You should be proficient in PHP and MySQL, have experience with Drupal and be able to commit yourself to helping out for at least a few months.

*Project management: We could also use some help coordinating design and development of our websites (adaptingtoscarcity.org and coh2o.org). If you have experience as a web project manager and are able to commit yourself to help out for at least a few months, we could use your help :)

*Video editing consulting and collaboration: While we have video production experience, we are by no means experts. We could use a wide array of help in this area. If you have experience with digital video production (especially with high definition footage), we could use guidance and/or collaboration. We could also use some help creating bumpers for our online videos!

(Social) media and networking

As an organization, our primary focus is to leverage digital and social media tools for social change. The beautiful thing about social media is that it’s easy and you’re probably already using some of the tools

*Spread the A2S Word: Blog about Adapting to Scarcity, join our Facebook fan page, follow us on twitter, tweet about us, send the website to friends and colleagues and help our network grow.

*Create short videos or photojournalism pieces on water related problems and solutions in your community, or the area of the world you’re located right now. It can be part of our coh2o.org project as it starts to grow.

*Social media advice and implementation: If you have experience using social media tools to expand networks and amplify voices, we want to hear from you! We could use guidance, consultation or even someone dedicated to helping us push the envelope of social media.

*Know about new ways of organizing/connecting on the internet? Let us know! We are very interested in connecting the grassroots internationally, and are always psyched to learn about new ideas.

*Get us in touch with other organizations (especially internationally): If you know like minded organizations, introduce us and strengthen the greater movement.

Translation and transcripion

Translation – especially on a large scale – is incredibly complicated and time consuming, and we can use whatever guidance and assistance we can get. Right now most of our material needs to be directed towards English and Spanish speaking audiences. Over time, we would like to expand our material to cover any and all languages of the world.

*Translation of web materials: We need help translating our web pages. We first need help translating everything into Spanish, but we will also need help translating everything into whatever language(s) you speak!

*Transcription/translation of video: We are generating a mountain of video – most of which is in Spanish. We need help translating it first into English, and then into other languages. As we start posting video clips on the web, we will especially need help with translations for subtitling.

*Translation software/tools/consultation: If you have any experience with translation software tools (especially for video, and double especially for video online), we’d like to hear about them!

Whaddaya think?!
