How to Throw an Adapting to Scarcity Fundraiser

Organizing a fundraiser is one of the easiest and best contributions you can make to our project. By spreading the word, you also gain more interest and support for Adapting to Scarcity. The end result of a fundraiser is a lot richer than just the monetary amount you raised, and it’s normally a heartwarming experience to witness and enjoy the support of your community.

While we have fundraised for all of our equipment, we are donating our time here in Guadalajara. We’re comfortable continuing doing that, but we need funds to expand our equipment, namely video storage space and more Flip cameras. Down the road, we will need to secure more funding for producing and touring with our documentary.

In the spirit of transparency and collaboration, if you throw a fundraiser, we can discuss where you would like to allocate the funds you raised.

Below are simple steps to throwing a great fundraiser, small or large.

1. Contact us! Let us know what you’re thinking, and we can give you lots of advice, supplies, and make a page on our website.

2.  Identify the approximate size of the event and some ideas for where it could be held.

  • If you want to throw a dinner, your house or a friends house could be perfect
  • Thinking 25 folks or more? Look into bars, cafes, and community spaces that are open to supporting good causes.

3.   Provide ways for people to donate at the event. Design the event around those ideas.

  • Many microbreweries will donate kegs.
  • Restaurants, cafes, and culinarily inclined friends are normally willing to donate food and support.Lots of local artisans, healers, and other small business are willing to donate items and gift certificates for a raffle. This is a REALLY fun way to gain more funds and treat the guests to cool items.
  • We have lots of high quality photos, taken by us and the kids of La Huizachera. We can send copies so you can sell prints at the event.

4.  Get the word out. We can definitely help with this step.

  • Invite all your friends on FaceBook and post the event there.
  • Post the event with local newspapers and online event listings in the area.
  • Talk to people who throw like-minded events to brainstorm and learn about other resources.
  • Reach out to local nonprofits that work in related fields to see if they’d be willing to co-sponsor and invite their supporters.

5.  Enjoy! Each event takes its own shape once the word is out, and opens new doors and opportunities for our project. We promise you will be surprised by the amazing people you meet and new projects you learn about in the process.
